From Beatrice

I memorized several new monologues more appropriate to my age and type.
I’ve been able to raise my autistic twins’ reading grades about 2 years worth over the past year.
I’ve been able to help my twins deduce and solve arithmetic formula problems…they’re not “there” yet, but well on the way.
I’ve been able to go to some acting classes and some coaching classes.
I’ve made plans to get an acting business coach. I already know how to act…darn, I’ve taught teenagers how to act! AndI’ve directed and choreographed children’s shows.
I’ve begun to really practice my singing and my speaking diction in real time on a daily basis…still have a regional accent, though, but not as pronounced.
I’ve begun to develop projects of my own.
Still no work in my trained field (computers in the financial field), which I went into after life events caused me to change career paths. I have a better shot at a job in my chosen craft/talent.
Started to go after acting work, and found things are different on this side of the acting career spectrum – age-wise…I now realize it’s a business, and has no reflection on my self worth or my talent or my creative skills.
I still am an artist, even after not being in my craft for years. Heck, after all of this life experience, I’ve even improved. How’s that for Zen in the art of acting?
Thank you for encouraging me to take a few minutes to realize what’s really important.

From Jenny Wren

January:  I quit a job that seemed great, but felt terrible – this taught me to ALWAYS trust myself and set the tone for the whole year.  I spent the rest of the month exploring the city and going to some awesome artistic events and meeting friends and heros!

February:  I performed in a VERY interesting show with a Tony winning director.  I played with my band for the first time (of many) at the Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg and donated my time to singing for veterans and the elderly.  I worked with Kathy Deitch for the first time which changed my way of auditioning forever and I started getting serious callbacks. :)  I got my SAG card doing THIS movie: http://www.thecomicbooknerd.com/2010/11/23/somebody%E2%80%99s-hero-trailer/
March:  I recorded and was paid handsomely for my first musical demo.  I traveled to the Carolinas and played the Highline Ballroom for the first time with my band.  I started working with my AMAZING agent!!!
April: I sang for St. Clement’s charity cabaret with Steve Schlachlin.  I booked Guys and Dolls! I performed in the BC/EFA Easter Bonnet competition with Jim Brochu.
May: I LIVED IN MAUI FOR FREE FOR A MONTH!!!! (And was featured in a movie while I was there.)
June:  I got more and more gigs with my band and got a raise in my pay with them.  I performed in the concert of Brigadoon with the Irish Rep at the Shubert Theatre. I was invited to an audition for an off-Broadway show.
July: I starred as Adelaide in Guys and Dolls with the BEST cast ever.
August:  I was requested by TELSEY to come in and audition for Alice Ripley’s cover on the Next to Normal tour (and though I didn’t get the job, I kicked serious butt).  I was interviewed for an article in the Wall Street Journal.  I went to Montreal with my husband and had an amazing time!  I was paid handsomely to sing an original song written by my friend at a wedding for a beautiful couple’s first dance.
September:  I had two awesome meetings with some very powerful entertainment industry folk which moved me to begin work on my pilot next year and my solo show at Rockwood Music Hall.
I sang my ass off at BMI for a wonderful team of writers in front of some very amazing talent.
October: I got to see two people I dearly love get married AND speak at their wedding!!  I celebrated my 9 year wedding anniversary to the greatest man alive.  I was hired to sing at Joe’s Pub for the 1st time – hollah!  I picked my co-host for my pilot.
November:  I moved to Dayton, OH (temporarily) to work at the Human Race Theatre Co in 8 Track: The Sounds of the Seventies! I’m here right now getting rave reviews – lol!
“Jennifer Wren supplies endearing versions of “I Am Woman” and “We’ve Only Just Begun” and tackles “Don’t Cry Out Loud” with gusto.”
“Wren’s musical talent is apparent.”
December:  Today I decorated cookies and laughed for hours.  I will perform TONIGHT though the 22nd, then fly home to Georgia for the first time in several years to spend Christmas with my family.  Next week I will start sending music to my arranger for my 2011 solo show.  I will finish up the year by performing in VT with the band on New Year’s Eve.
(This does not even include going to over 100 auditions, getting my first RothIRA and paying off tons of credit card debt, countless other shows with my band, taking control of my medical care, monthly Sati, dinners with friends or endless hours of voice lessons, rehearsals, and preparation and, of course, MARRIAGE!  It’s a big beautiful amazing life!)

in 2010,
I learned how to love myself more.
I learned how to stay in the flow.
I resolved a 8 year battle with my body. We are in love now, my body and me.
I quit a job that didn’t serve me.
I started my dream career.
I stepped into my passion and purpose and embraced it wholeheartedly.
I simplified my life to the things that are really important.
I started dancing in my living room.
I discovered my truth in relationship.
I became happier than I’ve ever been.
I became an Assistant Producer on a Documentary.
I made friends with some of the most amazing people I’ve ever met.
I found a spiritual home. I found a tribe.
I chose fun again. I choose fun now.
I am grateful.

From Ashley Leverty
Here ya go! I loved doing this. :)

Jan: Began the new year with a brand new outlook on my attitude and careers, thanks to starting Intensati with Erin! Made a year long intention to be a working actor.

Feb: Successfully balanced 3 jobs, an unpaid internship and 2 shows while finally feeling like things were clicking in NYC!. Began to make contacts, meet new people and felt like I was making strides in the right direction!

March: A month of clarity. Made a hard decision and didn’t follow through with it completely but it made me see clearly what I wanted and needed in a relationship.

April: Joined a national tour 7 months into their tour as a replacement and after minimal rehearsals, made an (relatively) easy transition into the show.

May: Was able to clearly assess who and what I want in my life and ended my 4 year relationship.

June: Traveled!!! Made amazing friends and saw some amazing places in America! A couple of my favorites were Lake Placid, NY and Greenville, SC!

July: Finished the first leg of Curious George Live and said goodbye to wonderful people.

August: Began the 2nd leg of Curious George Live and met wonderful people who became less of a cast and more of a family to me.

September: Traveled, visited New Orleans and spent some quality time with my sister and cousin. Realized that’s a place I’d love to live/work/start a theater company.

October: Grew closer to my cast while feeling more independent than ever. On a trip to NYC, had as much closure as possible from my relationship and stopped investing so much unhealthy energy into keeping things alive between me and another person.  Found out Curious George Live was closing, but was offered a 6 week contract in Spain a week later! Visited my old college and felt very, very proud to be back.

Nov: Grew more comfortable being myself and being by myself. Met someone who taught me life isn’t about what it should or shouldn’t be, but rather about what it is and what actually happens. Closed Curious George Live in Minneapolis and said goodbye to more great people.

Dec: Navigating life by trying to live moment to moment! Feeling comfortable and confident as a single woman. Continuing to try to understand how this business can break your heart (Spain was canceled) but saving money and relaxing in Mass til Jan 1 when I move back to NYC officially!!!

From Amanda Coppola
